The 2014 lecturers
Hendrik (Dirk) Heering
studied Molecular Sciences at Wageningen University, The Netherlands and obtained his PhD in 1995 from the same university for studies in bio-electrochemistry under the supervision of professors W. R. Hagen and C. Veeger. He carried out postdoctoral research projects with professor F. A. Armstrong at Oxford University, England (protein electrochemistry), with Dr. G. Smulevich at University of Florence, Italy (Raman spectroscopy), and with professors S. de Vries and C. Dekker at Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands (nano-electrochemistry). In 2005 he joined the section Protein Chemistry at the Leiden Institute of Chemistry, The Netherlands, leading the protein electrochemistry group. In addition to his affiliation with Leiden, in 2013 he also joined the Physical Chemistry and Colloid science group, Wageningen University, The Netherlands, as university teacher.
Jose Paulo Pinheiro
PhD obtained in 1996 and “Agregação”. He obtained in 2011 in the Chemical Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal. Joined the University of Algarve in 1995, and is Associate professor in Faculty of Sciences and Technology since 2003, teaching mostly analytical chemistry. The topics of interest in his research group are dynamic trace metal speciation and bioavailability. In recent years he has been involved in the development of dynamic speciation (electrochemical) techniques. Since June 2012 he belongs to the editorial board members of the journal Environmental Science and Pollution Research. Co-organizer of the graduate Course “Speciation and Bioavailability”, Wageningen, The Netherlands (2011, 2013 editions).
