We are excited to announce that members of AntwerpCER have recently published a new article in The International Journal of Management Education, titled The impact of entrepreneurial education on key entrepreneurial competencies: A systematic review of learning strategies and tools. Authored by Erika Branca, Johanna Vanderstraeten, Hendrik Slabbinck, and Isabo Maes, this study provides valuable insights into how entrepreneurial education develops essential competencies that empower future entrepreneurs to thrive in a dynamic and uncertain business environment.

What Does the Study Explore?

Entrepreneurial education equips students with the competencies to navigate today’s complex and evolving business landscape. This research provides a systematic examination of the core entrepreneurial competencies targeted by entrepreneurial education and explores how various learning strategies, interventions, and tools contribute to their development.

Key Takeaways

  • Four key competencies were identified as principle learning outcomes of Entrepreneurial Education, including self-efficacy, creativity, risk-taking, and innovativeness.

  • While traditional learning methods and interventions lay a strong foundation for self-efficacy, they are less effective in cultivating creativity and innovativeness.

  • In contrast, experiential and active learning interventions significantly enhance a broader range of entrepreneurial competencies.

  • A blended approach that integrates multiple learning strategies and tools proves to be the most effective in developing well-rounded entrepreneurial competencies.

By identifying the most impactful learning methods, this study offers practical recommendations for educators, policymakers, and institutions seeking to enhance entrepreneurial education programs and better prepare students for future challenges.
