Call for Proposals
9 & 10 May 2025 - Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp
Initiated by Karel Tuytschaever, Karin de Fleyt and Joery Erna
Are you a maker/performer interested in the experience of time within your artistic process and practice? We invite you to participate in Artistic Temporalities, a two-day seminar on May 9 and 10, 2025, culminating in a public immersive installation. Actor and filmmaker Karel Tuytschaever, musician Karin de Fleyt and photographer Joery Erna invite a diverse group of artists and together investigate how time manifests itself in different art forms. Together we discover what insights this can provide for both our individual and collective practice(s).
Purpose of the seminar:
Artistic Temporalities wants to be a meeting space to enable new insights and dialogues on the experience of time in art (practice). The emphasis is on reciprocal connections between different disciplines. We encourage makers/performers from all backgrounds to apply, with special attention to those who work multidisciplinary or transdisciplinary. During the seminar, we will enter into dialogue with each other to create an immersive installation together. The location is the Winter Garden of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Full-time attendance on May 9 and 10, 2025 is necessary.
We invite:
- Artists with an open mind and a strong affinity with the theme of time perception.
- Makers/performers, from novice to experienced, who are looking for active connections and are willing to participate in a joint creation during the seminar.
- Entries from all disciplines including, but not limited to, visual arts, performance, music, literature and media.
- You are able to communicate in English during the two days.
What we offer:
- Selected participants will have the opportunity to stay in Antwerp for three days, with lunch provided daily.
- A financial compensation for your contribution to the meeting and presenting your work during the seminar.
Interested? To register:
- Write a short motivation (NL or EN, max. 500 words) in which you answer the following question: what specific practice and work do you bring to interact with (our topic of) experiencing time?
Please upload your motivation as a PDF file (max. 10MB) in our Dropbox. The document name is noted as follows: first_name_last_name_motivation.pdf. For example, every_adams_motivation.pdf. - In addition to your motivation, also send us a portfolio with a selection of your (performative) work. This may go to the same Dropbox place. Add your PDF/sound/image/video file with the following document name:
firstname_lastname_portfolio.extension. For example elke_adams_portfolio.mov or elke_adams_portfolio.pdf.
We use the following maximum file sizes for the portfolio:
- PDF (.pdf): 10 MB, if possible you can compress the file slightly, such as a lower resolution of e.g. 72dpi for web quality
- Audio (.mp3 of .wav): 10 MB for .mp3 and 20 MB for .wav
- Images (.jpg): 5 MB per image
- Video (.mp4 of .mov): 200 MB
You can submit your motivation and portfolio before 5 January 2025 (extended deadline!).
We will inform you about our choice in the week of January 13, 2025. The selection will be made based on the affinity with the theme. We strive for a diverse group that can inspire each other. Failure to be selected does not include any judgment as to the quality of your work. We propose a shared and dynamic group process during our seminar.
Because we link a publication to the seminar, we ask interested participants to agree to make image and sound recordings.
