The ST_ART Arts and Technology Cluster aims to explore the intersection of cutting-edge technologies and human values through an artistic and transdisciplinary approach.

We prioritize ethics, accessibility, and embodiment in our exploration of AI, AR/VR/XR, decentralization, and the internet. Through this new platform/network, we aim to nurture both independent artistic endeavors and large-scale collaborations that challenge conventional norms and offer alternative perspectives on the future of digital media. Ultimately, our cluster endeavors to cultivate a critical and creative engagement with technology that puts human values at the center.

The ST_ART Arts and Technology Cluster's approach to weaving together technology and values can be visualized as a grid, with the technological focus areas intersecting with the core human values. This grid-like structure represents the cluster's commitment to exploring the potential of emerging technologies while ensuring that they are developed and applied in ways that align with ethical principles and promote human well-being.

Ongoing projects and research groups

Our current research spans from data visualization and interactive storytelling to the sonification and visualization of movement by musicians, dancers, and performers. Additionally, we explore the realms of performance - encompassing dance, music, and theater - within virtual and augmented reality environments. Notably, we emphasize understanding audience response and interaction within these hybrid spaces.

What unites these diverse projects is our dedication to the live and embodied  aspect of performing arts, the symbiotic interaction with our audiences, and the cultivation of community throughout the creative process. Crucially, our endeavors extend into the realm of "phygital" experiences, which seamlessly blend the digital and physical worlds to offer immersive interactive encounters. Originally conceptualized by Chris Weil, Chairman & CEO of Momentum Worldwide, the exploration of phygital experiences serves as a cornerstone in our artistic research on interactive technology and hybrid virtual-real environments.
