Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation
Transcatheter valve implantation for aortic stenosis is an important cardiologic research topic. The department of Cardiology of the Antwerp University Hospital is a pioneer in this type of percutaneous treatment modalities of human structural heart disease. Clinical research is performed on:
- optimisation of interventional implantation strategies;
- optimisation of clinical and technical patient selection;
- evaluation of different imaging modalities for optimal technical patient selection and aortic root imaging;
- pathogenesis of the major complications of the technique, that is conduction disturbances and aortic valve regurgitation;
- long term follow up and monitoring of newly implanted devices;
- optimisation and evaluation of newly developed devices.
Clinical research is performed both single centre and multicentre, and at the national and international level.
