Research in Psycholinguistics

The psycholinguistic research within CLiPS investigates language processing at all levels of the system (sounds, words, sentences, texts). The focus is on how multilingualism influences comprehension and production on these different levels. Does the knowledge of our native language influence how we perceive sounds or produce sentences in a language that we learn later in life? And do languages we learn later in life also influence comprehension and production in our native language? To answer these questions, we use behavioral experiments that measure reaction times during reading and listening in these languages and register production choices in writing and speaking tasks.

We are part of the Learner Language Research team of the University of Antwerp and we meet regularly with syntactic priming researchers of the department of  Experimental Psychology of Ghent University.
