Research topics
The sociolinguistic research within CLiPS mainly focuses on regional and social patterns in informal computer-mediated communication. It draws on unique corpora of private chat conversations produced by Flemish teenagers in a variety of social media. In addition, we are setting up some pilot studies on the digital literacy of seniors and we coach a service project teaching the very oldest generation basic digital skills.
Finally, we co-supervise a project on the gender dynamics in political debates in the German parliament and a project on cross-cultural differences in relational talk in service encounters.
We are also part of the steering committee of the International Conference Series on Computer-mediated Communication and Social Media Corpora.
