Bankbusters wins second price in Climate Future Project Award
Each year, the Belgian Construction Awards are awarded to honor innovation and creativity in the construction sector. The awards are a platform for promising, creative, and innovative individuals, projects, and companies.
This year, the project Bankbusters received the second place award in the category Climate Future Project. Bankbusters is a collaborative project of UAntwerpen (Research Group Ecosphere, Department of Biology, Global Change Ecology Centre), UGent, DEME, Jan De Nul and iFlux.
The aim of the project is the reuse of soft dredged material and the restoration of salt marsh habitats (tidal wetlands) in areas previously affected by erosion, along with the restoration and enhancement of biodiversity and the provision of ecosystem services, including flood protection. Innovation is at the heart of 'Bankbusters,' with a focus on gaining detailed insight into biological processes, promoting a global understanding of ecosystems, and developing sustainable technological solutions. You can go and have a look at the bankbusters site when walking on the dike from the Kallo waterbus-stop.
