VLIR-UOS ICP North Workshop Master of Statistics and Master of Epidemiology
On 9 May 2018, the Center of Statistics organised the first International Course Program (ICP) North Workshop of the ICP programmes Master of Statistics at UHasselt and Master of Epidemiology at UAntwerpen. Four alumni and research partners, from developing countries, of both ICP programmes were invited to share with the participants their experiences, career paths, research activities and collaboration opportunities in statistics and epidemiology in their home country. The goal was to inform the participants about the current statistical and epidemiological field in the South. With over 60 participants leading to interesting discussions and many network opportunities, this first edition was a great success. The goals and initiatives of both ICP programmes were also highlighted during the workshop.
The following speakers were invited during the workshop: Prof. Setia Pramana (Institute of Statistics, Jakarta, Indonesia); Dr. Martin Kavao Mutua (African Population and Health Research Center, Nairobi, Kenya); Dr. Hypolite Muhindo (University of Kinshasa, DRCongo); Dr. Martin Mbonye (Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda).
Since 1993, VLIR-UOS has offered International Course Programmes (ICP) scholarships for students from developing countries at Hasselt University. The Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR-UOS) offers 12 scholarships each year for our ICP Master’s programme Master of Statistics which is adapted to the specific needs and interests of statistics in developing countries.
