The Government and Law Research Group aims to explore the relation between law and government in a broad sense, embedded in a legal, political, and social context.
Our central research questions concern five pillars:
- The impact of legal, political, and social evolutions on the legal concept of government,
- The working and competences of public institutions,
- Fundamental principles such as democracy, rule of law, and federalism,
- The protection of persons against government action, and
- The government's responsibility to respond effectively to urgent societal challenges, including the interests of future generations in its policies.
The research group aims to present the University of Antwerp on a national and international level as a research centre of public law which transcends traditional branches of law and related disciplines.
