Bruno Peeters is full professor at the University of Antwerp where he teaches the general course of tax law and the advanced course of European Tax Law. At the same university, he studied law (Lic. Iuris, 1982) and philosophy (Bac. Philosophy, 1979). In 1988, he obtained his PhD (1988) in the field of economic public law, especially on the ‘Continuity of Public Owned Enterprises’.
Bruno is the initiator and director of the Master of Tax Law (since 1995), founder and director of the Antwerp Tax Academy (since 2012), and spokesman and co-supervisor of the DigiTax research centre of excellence (since 2019). Since its start in 2018, he is also the chair of the Steering Committee of the Customs and Excise Continuing Education organised in collaboration with the Federal Public Service of Finance.
He was Dean of the Faculty of Law (2001-2003), member of the Board of Directors of the University of Antwerp (2011-2015), and since 2020, member of the UA Research Council. He was visiting Professor in Tax Law at the University of Bologna (2008-2009) and guest lecturer at several other European universities. He is currently president of the editorial board of Algemeen Fiscaal Tijdschrft, member of the editorial board of EC-Tax Review, and editor of the ‘Library Foundations of Tax Law’ and co-editor of the ‘Tax Library’ (Larcier-Intersentia publishers).
Bruno is the (co-)author of several policy research reports in the field of tax law. In 2011, he was appointed as special consultant of the Royal mediator in view of the partition of fiscal competences in view of the 6th Belgian state reform.
Currently Bruno is also assessor of the section legislation of the Belgian Council of State (since 2015) and a lawyer (since 2000). He is a member of the executive board of the European Association of Tax Law Professors and a member of the International Fiscal Association's Belgian branch.
