Summary
New technologies bring with them various new trust dilemmas. In a globalized world, communication to citizens becomes diverse and often overwhelming, causing them to trust some sources of information over others. With the advent of algorithms reinforcing such media choices, some individuals may become less trusting of official resources when these perspectives collide with their own, creating new issues for governmental organizations attempting to steer society. Moreover, it has become difficult to trust companies with sensitive data when these companies operate in jurisdictions where government surveillance is more invasive, creating issues for organizations and individuals across the globe. GOVTRUST incorporates such new trust dilemmas in its scope by studying how trust relationships are affected by the advent of new technologies, how individual trust behavior changes as a consequence of technological development and what the potential consequences of such developments are.
