Danish Postwar Modernism(s) and its Architectural Innovations (1945-1970)
Promotors: Bruno Notteboom, Lara Schrijver
This PhD examines a strand of Danish architecture that evolved in the aftermath of WWII. It sheds light on three underexposed tendencies and alternative approaches to mainstream modernism. They are discussed within the themes of “craft”, “organicism” and “new empiricism”. The PhD offers for the first time an in-depth study of theoretical frameworks and architectural projects that articulated these new design attitudes. It aims to contribute to the ongoing international re-reading of post-war architectural modernism.
