Bio

Bart Tritsmans (1985) obtained a PhD in history (University of Antwerp) and architectural engineering (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) in 2014 with a study on the historical evolution of urban public green space. His research focuses on the history of urban space (green space, wastelands, architecture and interiors) in the 19th and 20th centuries. He worked as exhibition curator and editor at the Flanders Architecture Institute. Since 2024, he holds a position as assistant professor in the history and theory of the interior at the University of Antwerp.

Favourite (interior) architecture project

La Fondazione Querini Stampalia, a 16th-century Venetian palazzo that was restored by Carlo Scarpa in the early 1960's, is an intriguing building. Instead of keeping the water from the adjacent canal out of the building, Scarpa incorporated it in his design. The care for materials and history, the playful steps, the stone doors and the water music in the courtyard make a visit to this project an exciting exploration.
