Bio

Mariana Moura is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellow at the Faculty of Design Sciences in the University of Antwerp. Her research focuses on the intersections of feminism and decoloniality, particularly in relation to architectural theory and history. Her current project on the oral history of women builders in self-produced architectures reassess female contribution to architectural and construction history. She was a postdoctoral research associate for the international project Translating Ferro/Transforming Knowledge and co-edited "Architecture From Below" (2024). She has also taught at the Federal University of Minas Gerais' School of Architecture (2014–2024), where she earned her PhD in Architecture and Urbanism (2019).

Favourite (interior)architecture project

Lina Bo Bardi's project for the SESC Pompéia Factory, a sports and cultural center in a working-class neighborhood of São Paulo, is an inspiration not only for the remarkable spatial adaptations of the old factory complex but also for the significance of Lina's professional activity as one of the first influential women architects in Brazil. The fact that the architect chose to preserve the communal activities that were informally taking place before she was commissioned for the project also highlights the ways in which communities shape their own built environment, with or without architects.
