Micro CT
Micro CT
Micro-tomography uses x-rays to create cross-sections that later can be used to recreate a virtual model without destroying the original model. MicroCT is superior for spatial resolution which is in the micrometer range. Micro CT scanners are typically used for small animals (in-vivo scanners), biomedical samples, foods, microfossils, and other studies for which minute detail is desired. Two types of microCT scanner setups are available: in the first (ex vivo) the X-ray source and detector are typically stationary while the sample/animal rotates. In the second setup, much more like a clinical CT scanner, the animal/specimen is stationary while the X-ray tube and detector rotate around. Within IMARK both type of microCT scanners are available:
One in vivo scanner is available: the Skyskan 1076. The system allows scanning of relatively large samples up to 68 mm in diameter and 150 mm long at resolutions of 9, 18 or 35 µm. The scanner is suitable for living animals such as mice, rats, birds. In addition, one ex vivo / in vitro scanner is available: the Skyskan 1072. The system is suitable for samples 1.5 cm diameter and with a maximal length of 3cm. The maximal resolution is 4 µm in samples less than 5 mm in diameter and the maximal magnification is 120x.
