iPRACS is developing several methods for chemical recycling of both heteropolymers (condensation polymers such as polyurethanes) and homopolymers (polyolefins). For polyurethanes, we are working out a conceptual multi-step process which is inherently more selective than state-of-the-art alcoholysis processes. For polyolefins (polyethylene, polypropylene and mixtures thereof), iPRACS collaborates with a.o. the LCT at UGent, to convert pyrolysis oils (provided by LCT) to valuable long-chain molecules, using our expertise on adsorptions/extractions, isomerizations, and organic functionalizations.
