A university wide network rooted in the Faculty of Social Sciences
Historical and present day movements of people across the globe have consistently shaped societies.
No matter whether regionally or transnationally, global movements have given rise to new challenges and opportunities across societal spheres. Social welfare, education, labour markets, health care, housing, media and popular culture, political representation and foreign policy are all influenced and reshaped by migration.
We also witness the co-existence of opposing, sometimes contentious, viewpoints on integration policies. These include economic migrants' rights, asylum, family reunification and circular migration. These matters often intersect with debates about local identities and values.
However, these discussions are incomplete without considering migrants' own agency and perspectives. Migrants, along with their families and communities on the move, are carriers of aspirations, political and social instances which connect their country of origin and their country of residence.
Building on the legacy of CEMIS and the expertise of scholars at the university of Antwerp, MIGLOBA provides scientific insights to a broad audience including policy makers and practitioners.
