Mission statement
SUSTAIN was launched in 2024 as one of the new research groups of the Bioscience Engineering Department of the Faculty of Sciences in the University of Antwerp. The acronym "SUSTAIN" stands for Bio-based Sustainability Engineering and this immediately summarizes our core research activities. Our research is dedicated to circular, bio-based societies supported by ecosystem services. This includes sustainable production of food and chemicals, waste-water treatment, climate change mitigation and adaptation and environmental impacts on human health.
