Centre for Research and Innovation in Care (CRIC) is a research group affiliated with the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Antwerp. The department organizes an academic ‘Master of Science in Nursing and Midwifery’, training students towards the attainment of four roles: clinical leader, evidence-based expert, researcher and academic healthcare provider. CRIC is characterized by a very strong synergy between its research activities and the Master program. CRIC is unique as its academic research activities are primarily focused on the discipline and identity of nursing and midwifery. 

The uniqueness of research activities performed within care is defined by four transversal domains:
(1) theory building in connection with practice
(2) innovative interventions as drivers for change
(3) cross-sector partnerships
(4) the nexus of sustainable research, education, practice, and policy. 

Within CRIC, four lines of academic expertise are put forward:
(1) Nurse and Pharmaceutical Care (NuPhaC) investigates the impact of nurses' contribution to pharmaceutical care on the quality of care and related patient outcomes, in  collaboration within an international consortium
(2) Workforce Management and Outcome Research in Care (WORC) investigates the impact of healthcare workers' behavior, collaboration, models, and systems on the workers’ psychosocial well-being and patient-related outcomes
(3) Promoting Advanced Nursing Care for Patients Affected by Chronic Disease Throughout the Lifespan (PANCARD) extends the evidence base for advanced nursing practice throughout the lifespan of patients with a chronic condition
(4) Midwifery Research Education and Policy Making (MIDREP) strives to enhance midwifery through a salutogenic approach prioritizing maternal- and child well-being and emphasizing empowerment and healthy lifestyles.
