Lowdimensional semiconductor devices show new and very interesting physical properties which have already led to a series of applications. We perform further fundamental reseach into the nature and the properties of spatially confined excitons in nanostructures like InAs/GaAs quantum dots and AgCl/KCl nanocrystals. Carrier relaxation, transport and switching processes are studied in III/V semiconductor quantum wells, mainly AlAs/GaAs resonant tunneling devices. ODMR and picosecond time-resolved photoluminescence measurements are applied to get further insight into the properties of these structures.
