Our research mission
The LMM is headed by Prof. Dr. Surbhi Malhotra and Prof. Dr. Herman Goossens and was established in 1995. The LMM has a world reputation in studying antibiotic use and resistance, as well as on the development of rapid diagnostic solutions by identifying and tapping the potential of newly emerging technologies for diagnostic applications; it houses research teams with expertise in molecular diagnostics, antibiotic use and resistance, and in hospital and primary care research.
The Lab of Medical Microbiology is part of the Vaccine & Infectious Disease Institute (VAXINFECTIO) which is formally recognised as Centre of Excellence of the University of Antwerp with Methusalem funding.
