I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Media, Movements and Politics research group in the Department of Political Science at the University of Antwerp. I received my PhD from the University of Essex, Department of Government. I have held visiting positions at the Collegio Carlo Alberto, University of Turin, and Aarhus University. My research centres on political communication, political behaviour, South Asian and comparative politics. I study how post-truth rhetoric, and broadly elite rhetoric influences citizens’ political behaviour in Pakistan, South Asia, and more broadly in comparative international contexts. I investigate the political implications of such rhetoric on democratic backsliding and the rise of authoritarian politics. I develop research designs using a variety of data and methods including experimental and survey methods, text-as-data, content analysis, archival and observational data, and fieldwork semi-structured interviews.
