The semantics and syntax of to-infinitive constructions in English. A cognitive approach. 30/04/1995 - 26/08/1997

Abstract

English to-infinitive constructions are described as constituting a radial category centred around one or more prototypes. For each type of usage a semantic description is given of both central and marginal instances and of the nature of the links connecting them. The syntax of the constructions is regarded as motivated by their semantics.

The syntax and semantics of to-infinitive constructions in English. A cognitive approach. 01/10/1991 - 30/09/1993

    Abstract

This study will attempt to analyze the great diversity of to-infinitive constructions as a radial category, centred around one or more prototypes and to explicate the form meaning correspondences within each construction type.
