The semantics and syntax of to-infinitive constructions in English. A cognitive approach.
Abstract
English to-infinitive constructions are described as constituting a radial category centred around one or more prototypes. For each type of usage a semantic description is given of both central and marginal instances and of the nature of the links connecting them. The syntax of the constructions is regarded as motivated by their semantics.Researcher(s)
