Closed head injury in the rat model : role of interleukines and lesion of the blood brain barrier. 01/10/1999 - 30/09/2001

    Abstract

A model for closed head injury in rats was developed. (J. Neurosurg. 89:796-806, 1998) The physiologic changes after head traume are studied as well as the chemical changes e.g. interleukine production. The lesion of the blood brain barrier is crucial in the development of changes after closed head injury : therefore, a study of the blood brain barrier after closed head injury is included.

Development and modification of a closed head injury model (Belg.Ver.v. Neurochirurgie 03/96). 01/01/1996 - 30/09/1999

      Abstract

A new modified closed cerebral head injury model in rat is developed. The importance of the different components such as acceleration/ deceleration, direct impact can be adjusted. Intracranial pressure, cerebral blood flow, blood brain barrier integrity, clinical neurological examination and histology are the main parameters used to validate the model. Farmacological intervention to avoid or limit secundary injury will be evaluated.
