Biography

After my MSc in Applied Engineering (Karel de Grote University College, 1994) and MSc in Engineering (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, 1996), I obtained a PhD in Micro-electronics Engineering (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, 2002) under supervision of Georges Gielen and Willy Sansen in the research group MICAS. After my PhD and some time as post-doc, in 2003, I cofounded Kimotion Technologies Inc., a spin-off of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven that later joined forces with Magwel.

In 2006, I started working for the Karel de Grote University College, department of Applied Engineering, as vice dean of the department, preparing the merging-in in the University of Antwerp. The merger took place in October 2013, merging the two engineering schools in Antwerp (Karel de Grote University College and Artesis University College) into one Faculty of Applied Engineering. Since then, I have been appointed as programme director of the faculty, and in the period from2018 to 2023 as vice dean for education.

My research in Cosys-lab is on the design of intelligent sensor and signal processing systems with a focus on sensor data acquisition and actuation using heterogeneous embedded hardware platforms.

I also teach courses on analog electronics, digital signal and image processing, and electronic systems. I am a typesetting enthusiast, always relying on LaTeX and its various packages. I contributed a few packages on CTAN.

I am an intense UNIX and GNU/Linux user and enthusiast, ranging from system administration over scripting to object oriented programming. In that I have experience programming CAD and DA software involving distributed computing and multithreading.

I contribute regularly - internally as well as internationally - to peer reviews of university teaching programs, reading and assessing self-evaluation reports, performing site visits and providing feedback to the assessed institution.
