Elisa, an international student from Germany
Here's her story
Hi, I'm Elisa and I'm from Germany! Here's a bit more about my experience as a student in Antwerp. The city is vibrant and multicultural, where you can hear many different languages as you walk through the streets. You can get by completely with just English, but even your smallest Dutch effort will be rewarded ;).
Hard and soft skills
The courses at UA are interesting and the professors committed to their teaching. After having attended a year there, you will have in-depth theoretical knowledge, as well as soft skills regarding group work and presentations.
The university is very active in organizing events, particularly for international students. I had the opportunity to participate in an Easter egg hunt, visit the port, and attend various dinners, which made it incredibly easy to make friends.
'Terrasjes' culture
The cafes and bars in Antwerp are stellar, especially if the sun is out! They are led with love and offer a truly unique beer culture. Each type of beer is served in its own distinctive glass, making going out an experience. And the Belgians are always up for grabbing a bolleke, the typical Antwerp beer served in a round glass.
Antwerp is truly a diverse, LGBTQ-friendly, and welcoming place.
P.S. one last tip: You can take the FlixBus (extra cheap) or the train (cheap) to Cologne, Paris, Brussels, Maastricht, Amsterdam, and many more which makes your semester abroad even more international!
