Starting a new journey 11,420 km away from home can be daunting...

...But my experience in Antwerp has been nothing short of incredible. I remember arriving during the Welcome Week with a heart full of excitement and readiness to embark on new experiences. On the very first day, I found myself surrounded by fellow students from all over the world, each of us a bit nervous but eager to connect. There were icebreaker games, campus tours, and countless opportunities to mingle. I recall a particularly fun evening at a local cafe where we shared stories and laughed over cups of Belgian hot chocolate. 

By the end of the week, I had made a bunch of new friends, and the campus that once felt so big and intimidating now felt like home.

As an Asian who doesn't speak Dutch, I was initially worried about facing discrimination. But from the get-go, I was welcomed with open arms. I found everyone to be exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The sense of community and support here is truly heartwarming, and that's one of the reasons why I love this university so much.

Another highlight I get from Welcome Week was getting a clear idea of what to expect for the academic year. We had informative sessions where professors and senior students shared tips on managing coursework, balancing social life, and making the most of our time here. It was reassuring to know that support was always available, and it really helped ease my initial worries.

All in all, you’re in for a great time here. 

Antwerp is such a beautiful place with a layout that’s both charming and super convenient. You’ve got to check out the cafes in Antwerpen Zuid if you want to relax and enjoy some delicious treats. But living in the heart of Belgium definitely has its perks. Afterall, with just a 30-minute to 1-hour train ride, you can also explore a bunch of other awesome cities. I totally recommend visiting Ghent, Leuven, and Bruges because each place has its own unique vibe and history. 

Every trip is a new adventure, so get ready to create some unforgettable memories!
