Visit to the Palace of Justice

On Wednesday 21 September, the new intake of Master of Laws and exchange students for the academic year 2022-2023 visited the Palace of Justice in Antwerp. The visit is a new faculty initiative to welcome new students. Honorary lawyer Bob Raets introduced the group to the Belgian legal system and gave them a tour of the building. The students were received by the President of the Bar Association of the Province of Antwerp, Johan Du Mongh, who explained his role as President of the Bar, and talked about the relationship between lawyers and their clients, and the importance of mediation. Last but not least, the group was received by public prosecutor Sanne Raats, who briefly explained what her job entails and answered some questions regarding the criminal law system in Belgium. The visit was concluded with a lunch at FOMUcafé allowing the students to get to know each other in an informal setting.
