Learning outcomes

1. The Bachelor knows the basic concepts and the main theoretical schools in sociology and can explain how these have developed historically.

2. The Bachelor knows the central questions in certain subdomains in sociology.

3. The Bachelor has an introductory knowledge of and insight in adjoining disciplines: philosophy, history, psychology, economics, law.

4. The Bachelor has knowledge of and insight in causes, effects and interrelatedness of the main social developments in modern societies.

5. The Bachelor knows the main characteristics of the Flemish, Belgian and European social and institutional context and can explain the most important social questions that manifest themselves in it.

6. The Bachelor can translate a broad social question or problem into sociological research questions.

7. The Bachelor has knowledge of and insight in the main quantitative and qualitative methods and techniques of social-scientific research and can apply this in simple cases.

8. The Bachelor can find relevant information in various traditional and modern sources of information and evaluate its quality.

9. The Bachelor can carry out social-scientific research in a team and under supervision; this means to choose a suitable theory and research set-up for a research question and to carry out the different research phases under supervision.

10. The Bachelor can build a logical and clear argument, report orally and in writing and argue at academic level in Dutch; the Bachelor can present research results to colleagues and communicate concisely in relevant forum languages.

11. The Bachelor can work together with others in an atmosphere of open communication and mutual respect, in order to find an effective and constructive solution to a problem.

12. The Bachelor can build a logical and clear argument, follows social developments with a critical intellectual attitude and can form a personal point of view about these.
