Learning outcomes
Dutch-taught Master of Sociology
1. The Master has advanced knowledge of the theories and the state of scientific research in one or more subfields of sociology.
2. The Master can clearly explain social problem definitions in sociological terms, translate them into sociological research questions, derive hypotheses from them and answer these in line with scientific criteria.
3. The Master can efficiently select, critically evaluate and synthesize relevant sociological literature on a certain theme.
4. The Master can, starting from the formulation of a problem, choose the appropriate sociological analysis method and use this independently to analyse complex qualitative and quantitative data and can critically explain the results.
5. The Master can clearly present and report research results orally and in writing adapted to the target audience (academic world, policy makers, field workers, the general public).
6. The Master can reflect critically and balanced and can form a scientifically founded opinion on societal problems and related policy solutions.
7. The Master can work efficiently and amicably in a team and at the same time be open to different opinions and appropriately complement these with his/her own insights.
8. The Master is able to follow relevant developments within one or more societal subfields and explain them sociologically. The Master takes into account the multicultural and global context in which these societal developments manifest themselves.
9. The Master has knowledge of and insight in at least one specific policy sector and can translate the results of scientific research into policy recommendations at macro level as well as at the level of organisations.
