Lecturers
Sylvy Anscombe received her PhD from the University of Oxford in 2013 with a thesis on Definability in Henselian Fields, under the supervision of Jochen Koenigsmann. She works now in the Jeremiah Horrocks Institute for Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy at the University of Central Lancashire, in Preston (UK).
Yong Hu obtained his PhD in 2012 from the University Paris-Sud 11 under the supervision of Jean-Louis Colliot-Thélène. After being for a couple of years an associate professor at the University of Caen (France), he was appointed in 2017 as an assistant professor at the Southern University of Science and Technology in Shenzhen (China). He is an expert on local-global principles of quadratic forms and related field invariants. In 2020 he will support the ALGAR summer school as a lecturer for the second time, after 2018.
Karim Johannes Becher was born in 1973 in Munich (Germany). He received his Ph.D. in 2001 at the University of Besançon (France). His supervisors were Eva Bayer-Fluckiger and Detlev Hoffmann. From 2001 to 2012 he was a postdoctoral researcher at several European universities, in particular at University of Konstanz (Germany). Since 2012 he is a professor at the University of Antwerp.
Nicolas Daans obtained his Master's Degree in Mathematics from the University of Antwerp in 2018. For his final project, he presented and partially improved Jochen Koenigsmann's result that the ring of integers ℤ has a universal first order definition in the rational numbers ℚ. He currently is a PhD-student at the University of Antwerp, under the supervision of K.J. Becher.
