2024 | Electrocatalysis
The Winter school on Electrocatalysis (5 - 9 February 2024)
This Winter school on Electrocatalysis towards a greener society is a one-week programme, hosted by the University of Antwerp (UAntwerp) and the group of applied electrochemistry and catalysis (ELCAT) of the applied engineering faculty.
This Winter school on Electrocatalysis has as purpose to introduce you into the world of green electrochemistry starting from its basics and ultimately leading to the hottest applications that can currently be found in academy and industry. At the start, you will be submerged into the field of electrochemistry with some theoretical sessions, explaining the basic principles and moving on to the most applied methods in electrochemistry (LSV, R(R)DE, impedance, etc.), including an investigation of the kinetics and mass transfer aspects. This will be followed by some sessions on electrocatalysis and hands-on experience with electrochemistry inside the laboratories of the ELCAT group and with some of the newest products of Metrohm, where participants will be able to put some of the theories seen in the lectures in practice. Afterwards, a dive into the electrochemical reaction engineering and all its practical issues is foreseen. Finally, some of the most widely investigated applications of electrochemistry will be discussed in more detail by renowned scientists in the field.
Some of the topics that will be discussed in more detail are CO2 electroreduction, hydrogen production and advanced electrocatalyst development. Ultimately, for those students wishing to earn 3 ECTS credits, a report will have to be written on the practical session and the company visit, which will be evaluated and graded by an academic jury.
