The 2023 edition on Social City Design was all about superdiversity, creative storytelling, citizen driven design, creative democracy and the students' own city challenge case. This 5-day Climathon Summer school was organised by the University of Antwerp in collaboration with Stadsform. It is supported by Climathon - an international movement set up by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT)’s Climate Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) as well as by the King Baudouin Foundation. Climathon Antwerp is one of the many climathons taking place in other cities around the world.
6 challenges were offered by the Innovation Network of the Flemish Government (INO):
1. How do we create secluded oases as part of green-blue networks in neighborhoods with lower socio-economic status.
2. How do we design the mobility hub / neighborhood hub of the future in which we bring together e.g., shared mobility, local economy (traditional, circular, e-commerce) and social life.
3. What innovative thinking, approaches do you see to increase tolerance toward diversity in (working-class) neighborhoods?
4. How can we bring more elements of play to the city for girls?
5. How can we make community work attractive again?
6. How can we create caring neighborhoods in which people, regardless of age and type of support needs, can (continue to) live comfortably in their home or familiar neighborhood.
7. How do we hack renewable energy for all?
