Target group

The summer school is designed for final year Bachelor students and Master students from different disciplines, as well as for professionals and researchers, interested in deepening their knowledge about the mechanisms of immersion, user-centered storytelling, interactive design, combining analogue and digital prototyping, 360° recording and editing, coding and user testing. We welcome applicants from a broad spectrum of backgrounds: coding, web design, games design, journalism, filmmaking, photography, literature, the arts and creative industries. Participants looking for a relevant mixture of theoretical, empirical and practical insights from an interdisciplinary perspective are warmly encouraged to apply.

For students looking to earn ECTS credits at the summer school, a specific learning path is designed. 

English is the language of instruction. As active participation is compulsory in the course, English proficiency is required.

Study credits and deliverables

Successful completion of the summer school can be awarded with 3 credits according the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). All certificates of completion are issued as a micro-credential. 

Credits will be awarded on the base of 100 % (active) participation during the course (two weeks), final presentations and an additional assignment. At the end of the summer school, students are expected to present the following deliverables:

  • An elaborate group report quoting the logic of the analyses and the consecutive actions undertaken to get the group work done. This document should give the assessors a clear overview of the steps undertaken to come to the end product.
  • A 20 minute presentation, followed by a 10 minute Q&A, where the group work is presented.
  • Individual and team reflection report on the role and functioning of the student in a group of students with different backgrounds.


Social programme

Participants will be able to get in touch with peers attending other summer schools at the Antwerp Summer University. A visit to the beautiful city hall, a networking reception, a guided city walk, a quiz night, a football game and a day-trip to another Belgian city such as Bruges or Brussels are only some examples of these activities.

All activities of the social programme are offered free of charge, in some cases participants will be asked for a deposit which will be reimbursed upon participation to the activity.
