As far as possible, we communicate through www.uantwerpen.be in Dutch and through www.uantwerp.be in English.
www.uantwerpen.be is the University of Antwerp's one and only real URL. www.uantwerp.be is its equivalent in English.
To ensure effective communication, shortened URLs can be created for particular themes, centres, research units, events, faculties, programmes, etc.
We ask you to use these shortened URLs in the style of www.uantwerpen.be/... or www.uantwerp.be/... wherever possible. However, particular research groups, centres, conferences and projects may also be given their own domain names.
Shortened URLs
According to the navigation structure, each web page automatically receives a readable URL.
e.g. https://www.uantwerpen.be/en/faculties/faculty-of-law/research/
It is possible to create shortened URLs, mainly to be able to refer to the website in printed publications.
Guidelines:
- Always in lowercase letters,
- no spaces,
- only hyphens as punctuation,
- no slashes in shortened URLs,
- requests and central management via coordinator for web communication.
Faculties:
Faculties recieve allocated URLs like www.uantwerpen.be/en/faculties/faculty-of-law/research/ or www.uantwerpen.be/en/faculties/faculty-of-science/ the page plan.
Shortened URLs like www.uantwerp.be/law or www.uantwerp.be/science or www.uantwerp.be/medicine are possible. They always refer to the faculty!
In short, each faculty is allocated a shortened URL based on its name, but without 'faculty' in it.
Programmes:
Shortened URL: www.uantwerpen.be/bachelor-biologie or www.uantwerpen.be/master-geschiedenis . Shortened URLs for programmes always contain the programme level with a hyphen in between.
Research groups, centres and institutes:
Each research group can request a shortened URL for its subsite based on its name or abbreviation.
e.g. www.uantwerpen.be/ecobe or www.uantwerpen.be/bio-imaging-lab or www.uantwerpen.be/usos, etc.
Domain names
Some research groups, centres, conferences and projects have their own domain names.
These domain names can redirect users to the appropriate pages at www.uantwerpen.be.
However, once you are on the website, the URL www.uantwerpen.be will appear in the URL window.

Request a new domain name
Research groups, centres, conferences and projects that would like to register a new domain name can contact dnsmaster@uantwerp.be mentioning:
- The new domain name
Check if your preferred domain name is still available at the dns-website
- The UAntwerp-link
- Include your budget code in your request and the project name
A .be domain name requires an annual fee around 7 euros
A .eu domain name requires an annual fee around 15 euros
