To make communicating and sharing your link easier, shortened URLs or quicklinks can be created for centres, research groups, events, faculties, courses, etc.
For example www.uantwerpen.be/design-sciences or www.uantwerpen.be/science-for-everyone.
Research groups, centres, congresses or projects sometimes have their own domain name.
For example www.linguapolis.be or www.usos.be.
Each faculty, research group or team should agree on which shortened URL they use and communicate this to all team members.
Shortened URLs or quicklinks
Webeditors can create and manage quicklinks themselves: check out the tutorial (in Dutch).
Guidelines
- Use only lowercase,
- no spaces,
- no slash (/) or other punctuation marks,
- only use a hyphen (-) to separate words,
- use short, clear and meaningful words
- use as few abbreviations as possible, unless it is a well-known acronym.
Tips
- When deleting pages or taking them temporarily offline, always check whether a quicklink has been created for that page. If neccessary, remove the quicklink or move it to a different or new page.
- In print, never communicate a quicklink that you have not checked or created beforehand.
- Use a quicklink only with www.uantwerpen.be (and not with www.uantwerp.be).
Faculties
Each faculty has a shortened URL based on the name or the acronym, without ‘faculty’ in it. Contact your faculty's communications manager to find out which shortened URL is used in communications.
Study programmes
Each programme has a quicklink, e.g. www.uantwerpen.be/social-economic-sciences or www.uantwerpen.be/bachelor-social-economic-sciences. Check with your communications manager which shortened URL is used for the programme pages.
Research groups / centres / institutes
For each research group, centre and institute, a quicklink based on its name or acronym is created. For example www.uantwerpen.be/mios, www.uantwerpen.be/ecobe, www.uantwerpen.be/bio-imaging-lab or www.uantwerpen.be/usos.
Domain names
Research groups, centres, congresses or projects sometimes have their own domain name.
This domain name often redirects to the appropriate page on www.uantwerpen.be. Once on the website, the www.uantwerpen.be-url does appear in the url window.
Please note: you cannot share your own domain name in combination with https. This certificate is only valid on www.uantwerpen.be.
For example, use www.usos.be in your communications, not https://www.usos.be.
Registering a new domain name
Research groups, centres, congresses or projects wishing to register a new domain name can send a request to our UAntwerp Network Service (Maddy Hennebert).
Send an e-mail to dnsmaster stating:
- The desired domain name or URL
You can check on the DNS website whether your desired domain name is still available - Which URL on www.uantwerpen.be you want to link to
- Budget code + project name
Registering a .be domain name costs 7 euro/year
Registering a .eu domain name costs 15 euro/year
Directing a registered domain name to the right web page
If your registered domain name isn't redirecting visitors to the right landing page on www.uantwerpen.be, you can contact E-campus to set up a redirect for your domain name.
