What are the roles and responsibilities of a web editor? When do you need editing rights? You'll find the answers below, as well as the form to request editing rights.

What does an editor do?

An editor is responsible for ensuring that their web pages are up-to-date, correct and user-friendly. Together, we make the UAntwerp website an excellent testimonial to our university and a user-friendly tool for all our visitors.

How many editors are needed?

One web editor who manages an entire subsite and has mastered the content management system is much more efficient than several editors who each edit small pieces of text and only occasionally need to log in. Splitting up responsibilities wastes time and is not conducive to creating a coherent, user-friendly website. That's why we limit the number of editors as much as possible.

When do you need editing rights?

  • Have you requested a new subsite or will you be managing it? Please request editing rights for the new site via the form below.
  • Are you (temporarily) taking over the role of web editor from a colleague? Please request editing rights via the form below.
  • Do you want to make changes to an existing subsite? Check first if one of the existing editors can make the necessary changes.
  • Do you want to make changes to a central page? Contact the department or team responsible for that page.

An overview of all current web editors and who is responsible for which page can be found in the Content Management Plan (on Pintra).

What skills do you need as an editor?

  • You should have good text editing skills.
  • You should be able to organise information into logical sections and present it in a user-friendly way.
  • You should know what terms like 'navigation', 'URL', 'tab', 'browser', 'copy-paste' and 'pixel' mean.
  • You should be able to perform basic image editing tasks: saving images to your hard disk, cropping them and uploading them to the web server (using our guidelines, tools and instructional videos).

If you find any of these things difficult, there are two options:

Editing rights levels

There are two levels of editing rights:

  • Web page editors: navigation + content management
One or two people per subsite who are responsible for the entire subsite. They serve as the points of contact for all web editing questions or issues.

  • Web content editors: content management
Editors that only modify content on existing web pages. They are coached by the web page editors. The webpage editors are their first points of contact.
