Het Executive Committee of the European Physical Society heeft Em. Prof. Jozef Devreese de Gero Thomas Medaille 2020 toegekend voor zijn bijdrage aan de Condensed Matter Physics gemeenschap, alsook aan de European Physical Society (EPS).

Hij zal gelauwerd worden op een online bijeenkomst op 8 en 9 april.

Het Departement Fysica wenst Prof. J.T. Devreese van harte proficiat met het behalen van deze prijs.

Etienne Goovaerts and Sergio Nistor pay hommage to the late professor em. Dirk Schoemaker (1935 - 2020), in a lecture on Defects in Materials, organized by ICDIM2020. Dirk Schoemaker was a regular contributor to the conference and long time member of the international comitee.

To start on February 1st 2021 as a permanent assignment, we are looking for an experienced small molecule crystallographer, with knowledge of X-ray devices, synchrotron facilities and with a passion for promoting the electron diffractometer in the fields of science and industry.

Last year, Dr. Gustavo Santiso-Quinones, Dr. Gunther Steinfeld, Dr. Eric Hovestreydt and Nils Gebhardt  founded the start-up company ELDICO Scientific. ELDICO stands for the Electron Diffraction Company. It emerged from a ground-breaking scientific publication on electron diffraction, which was nominated as Breakthrough of the Year by SCIENCE magazine in 2018. Electron diffraction and the electron diffractometer constitute a disruptive technology that will fundamentally change the way research is conducted at the nano-crystalline level. This will have a major impact in science as well as in the pharmaceutical, agrochemical, chemical and advanced materials industries.

ELDICO is bringing a disruptive innovation to market

Since its incorporation, ELDICO has gone through a steep starting phase, already causing quite a stir in the science community and on the market.  So far, our core team consists of the four founders,  a junior marketing manager and a senior project technical manager. A wider team of engineers, scientists and technical specialists from six suppliers in four European countries. The small ELDICO core team with its low hierarchy levels will allow you to bring your ideas directly to life. To be honest, we do not work 9 to 5: a start-up environment is challenging and needs quite a lot of commitment. Proactive pioneers will thus find a multifaceted field of activity with high market orientation in an international scientific and start-up environment.
