The Vision Lab of the Department of Physics in the Faculty of Sciences is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Processing and analysis of magnetic resonance images using machine and deep learning.
This position is part of the ERC Consolidator project “A data-driven approach to microstructure imaging” (ADAMI), funded by the European Union. ADAMI is a highly interdisciplinary project that combines insights from physics/engineering (magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and light-sheet microscopy), biological and medical sciences (tissue microstructure, immunostaining, and neuroscience), and computer science (data analysis, image processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence) to achieve a breakthrough in microstructure imaging with MRI.
Position
- You will develop and investigate machine and deep learning methods for the processing and analysis of MRI images.
- You will present your findings at international conferences, publish scientific articles related to the research project, and participate in outreach events.
- You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis on the topic of analysis of MRI images using machine and deep learning.
Profile
- You hold a Master’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or Engineering (or related), or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
- You can demonstrate excellent study results.
- You have a keen interest in medical imaging of the brain and biomedical research in general.
- You have excellent programming skills and in-depth knowledge about optimization, machine learning, and deep learning.
- You have experience with solving large linear systems (e.g. numpy) and large-scale inverse/optimization problems (e.g. scipy, cvxopt, pylops, …)
- You have experience with machine and deep learning (e.g. scikit, pytorch, …)
- Knowledge of image processing (e.g. segmentation, warping, registration, restoration, …) and magnetic resonance imaging is considered a bonus.
- Experience with large data sets and GPU computing (e.g. CUDA) is considered a bonus.
- Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
- You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
- You can work independently, creatively, and efficiently, with attention to quality and integrity.
- You are a strong team player with the ability to cooperate and succeed in a dynamic international environment.
- You can speak and write fluently in English, and you have excellent communication skills.
What we offer
- We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of 1 year, renewable to 4 years after positive evaluation.
- The planned start date is 1 November 2024.
- Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders
- You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
- You will do most of your work at Campus Drie Eiken in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
