Evelyn Wilson & Beverley Freedman

Evelyn Wilson is Associate Director Learning Solutions PreK-12 in Continuing and Professional Learning at The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), at the University of Toronto. Evelyn has three post-secondary degrees from the University of Michigan, Western University and the University of Windsor. She brings an extensive background in education having held positions at several Ontario school boards as a high school teacher, school administrator, consultant and superintendent. Evelyn also worked for the Ministry of Education in the Special Education and Adult and Continuing Education department where she was part of a provincial school improvement project. The Ontario Supervisory Officials Association of Ontario, for whom she has written curriculum, has recognized her leadership skills and contracted her to mentor new superintendents.  

At OISE her prime responsibilities are in the development, implementation and assessment of Ontario College of Teachers accredited courses for teachers in a wide variety of subject areas. The Principal Qualification courses and Practicums are also an important part of her portfolio. In addition, Evelyn works collaboratively with international partners to develop and deliver customized leadership courses for school leaders and government officials.

 

Beverley Freedman, throughout her multiple engagements with Ministry of Education as an Education Officer as well as Executive Officer and member of the Ministry of Education’s executive team of the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat, worked on issues of school/system improvement, equity issues including special education and curriculum renewal. As the former Superintendent of Programs with the Durham District School Board (DDSB), she was responsible for curriculum and special education K-12 for a district of 70, 000 students in over 125 schools. Beverley is currently a consultant providing training, facilitation and her expertise in course design, leadership and educational system improvement. She is currently offering consulting expertise to TVO for Teach Ontario, TLP’s Canada’s Outstanding Principals and OISE/UT. Internationally she works with colleagues in Norway, Chile and the Dominican Republic. In 2013, Beverley co-authored a text with Raf Di Cecco on Collaborative School Reviews.

Beverley received numerous awards for her government work in public education and pedagogic initiatives including the most recent Outstanding Educator Award by PDK-UT in 2016. She has a Doctorate in Educational Administration, as well as a Masters in History and a second Masters in the Art of Teaching (Geography), a Bachelor of Arts and Education from the University of Toronto. Beverley also possesses a Mediation Certificate from the University of Windsor Law School.  She continues to research and present papers and workshops at numerous national and international education conferences
