Content

Target group and objectives:

PhD students who write articles in English. The course teaches participants how to write engaging and precise academic papers, improving confidence and independence in writing.

Content:

The course concentrates on improving the participants' academic writing by looking at:

  • paper build-up and structure
  • typical phrases
  • modern academic English writing
  • common language areas improving readability (e.g. grammatical pitfalls, punctuation)
  • resource materials
  • participants’ own academic texts

Method:

In this interactive course, the theory will be taught and practised using relevant text extracts as examples. Furthermore, participants will be given writing assignments on which the lecturer will give them individual feedback. This gives participants the opportunity to focus on any current or future projects.

This course involves:

  • interacting during sessions
  • self-study (outside the sessions)
  • writing own academic texts and improving them

Materials:

The coursebook was developed by Linguapolis using their experience with similar courses, error analyses of student research papers and course feedback by students who followed the course in the past. As a result, the course meets the needs of the target group perfectly.
