Vanaf 2020 brengt FSW Connects (Faculteit Sociale Wetenschappen) in samenwerking met ‘Nuff Said vier maal per jaar een gratis Lunch Talk. Tijdens deze Lunch Talks staat een artiest centraal uit de wereld van de comedy, literatuur of muziek. De focus ligt op het persoonlijke en professionele verhaal van de gast, en hoe het zich afspeelt tegen een achtergrond van belangrijke maatschappelijke thema’s en gebeurtenissen zoals migratie, polarisatie en (internationale) conflicten. Kom langs en laat je inspireren door onze onconventionele gastsprekers. 

BROOKE SIMPSON (VS) is een powerhouse vocaliste met een passie voor muziek, mensen en haar cultuur. Brooke is volbloed Indiaanse en is lid van de Haliwa-Saponi stam. Brooke heeft de kans gehad om samen te werken met artiesten als Miley Cyrus, Sia, Taboo (The Black Eyed Peas) en was onlangs nog te zien in een wereldwijde Nike N7-campagne. Ze was finaliste bij NBC's The Voice en finaliste bij America's Got Talent en heeft sindsdien meerdere singles uitgebracht, waaronder haar laatste release, ‘I Believe In a Thing Called Love’, in samenwerking met Scary Pockets.

De voortdurende strijd en veerkracht van inheemse Amerikaanse stammen benadrukken hun blijvende betekenis in de hedendaagse samenleving.  Brooke zal vertellen over haar cultuur, als Haliwa-Saponi-vrouw en het opgroeien in een inheemse gemeenschap in Noord-Carolina. Daarnaast zal ze spreken over hoe die opvoeding haar heeft gemaakt tot wie ze nu is en hoe dit haar ook als kunstenaar en persoon heeft gevormd. Ze groeide op met zingen bij haar ouders en leerde van hen, en zal verschillende verhalen verbinden met haar directe familie en opvoeding.

From 2020, FSW Connects (Faculty of Social Sciences) will bring a free Lunch Talk four times a year in collaboration with 'Nuff Said. Native American tribes’ ongoing contributions and resilience highlight their enduring significance in contemporary society.  Brooke will talk about her culture, being a Haliwa-Saponi woman and growing up in an indigenous community in North-Carolina. Additionally she will speak about how that upbringing made her who she is today and shaped and molded her as an artist and person as well. Growing up singing with her parents and learning from them, she will tie together different stories to her immediate family and education.
