Living Beyond Perception: Defying Societal Labels Through Music and Identity

Lunch Talk # 16 - AINT AFRAID (US) 05/05/2025

From 2020, FSW Connects (Faculty of Social Sciences) will bring a free Lunch Talk four times a year in collaboration with 'Nuff Said. During these Lunch Talks, an artist from the world of comedy, literature or music is central. The focus is on the personal and professional story of the guest, and how it takes place against a background of important social themes and events such as migration, polarization and (international) conflicts. Come along and be inspired by our unconventional guest speakers.

Aint Afraid—identical twin sisters and musical artists—share their journey of breaking barriers and defying societal labels as Muslim women in the global music industry. From recording songs in their car to performing for the Recording Academy during Grammy Week, they have used resilience, faith, and creativity to carve their own path. Drawing inspiration from their song LBP (Little Bo Peep), they will discuss how they’ve stayed true to their purpose by moving beyond the preconceived perceptions and limitations imposed by others. This conversation invites audiences to reflect on overcoming expectations and embracing authenticity in all aspects of life.
