Rita De Maeseneer is Professor of Spanish American Literature and Culture at the University of Antwerp (Belgium) since 1998. She is specialized in Caribbean Hispanic literature and its diaspora. She has published El festín de Alejo Carpentier. Una lectura culinario-intertexual (2003), Encuentro con la narrativa dominicana contemporánea (2006), Seis ensayos sobre narrativa dominicana contemporánea (2011), Devorando a lo cubano. Una aproximación gastrocrítica a textos relacionados con el siglo XIX y el Período Especial (2012). She has supervised various Ph.D. projects. She is co-author of Ocho veces Luis Rafael Sánchez (2008). She was editor of the book serie Foro Hispánico (Brill) and is reviewer for variuos journals. She directed various research projects: on History and Fiction in Caribbean and Centralamerican literature, on Food in Caribbean and Mexican Literature, on canon in Caribbean and Argentinian and Chilean literature (1990-2015). She has been invited to give talks in Europe, Latin America, United States. She is currently working on sensory studies in Caribbean literature. She is co-promotor of a Ph.D. on Senses in Children characters in Us-Mexican Border literature.
