Francqui Research Professorship and teaching reduction
In June 2023, I was awarded the Francqui Research Professorship 2023-2026 at the University of Antwerp/Belgium. This implies a reduction of my teaching load by about 50% for the period of 3 years financed by the Francqui Foundation.
Starting winter/spring 2024, part of my teaching load will be taken over by the postdoc Federico Zadra (Francqui & EoS-2 financed).
Inaugural lecture on February 5, 2025
On February 5, 2025, I will give an Inaugural lecture at 17.30h (directly after the reception of the Research Day 2025 of the Faculty of Science of the University of Antwerp). Registration is free but mandatory in order to be able to estimate the number of people attending the reception afterwards.
Ttitle: "Symmetries in dynamics".
Abstract: "Many objects have natural symmetries and/or move in a symmetric way like a rotating ball or a spinning top. Mathematically, such situations are usually described by a system of differential equations that has preserved quantities. If such a system has a maximal number of independent, preserved quantities, it is often referred to as an integrable system. In this talk, we explain in an intuitive way how far such systems in low dimensions can be characterized and classified by geometric visualization."
Where: D.Q.002 "Promotiezaal" in Building Q on Campus Drie Eiken of the University of Antwerp [official address: Universiteitsplein 1, 2610 Wilrijk, Belgium].
When: February 5, 2025 at 17:30h.
