The curriculum's role in shaping Global Engagement
In an era marked by complex global challenges and opportunities, the imperative for global citizenship education has never been greater. The Academic Committee on Global Engagement (ACGE) is hence proud to present the Local learning, Global Impact conference, an event designed to catalyze the integration of Global (South) perspectives and attitudes within learning objectives and competencies in curricula at the University of Antwerp, and beyond.
The conference aims at equipping participants with practical skills, actionable tools, and innovative strategies necessary for embedding Global Engagement into their curricula and educational ethos and, as such, cultivating a more critical, and globally aware educational community:
- Bridge gaps: By bringing together a diverse mix of educators, students, and global thinkers, we aim to bridge the gap between traditional education models and the pressing need for global perspectives in learning environments.
- Empower through practicality: Move beyond theoretical discussions to provide a hands-on, practical toolkit that educators can implement, enhancing the global engagement of students across disciplines.
- Foster inclusive dialogue: Ensure a balanced representation of voices, particularly emphasizing the inclusion of perspectives from the Global South, to enrich discussions and learning outcomes.
Conference Highlights:
Inspirational keynote addresses: our keynote speakers, the esteemed professor Syed F. Alatas and professor Carolina Sanchez, will share their critical work and perspectives on sociology and environmental ethics, respectively, setting the stage for insightful dialogue and discovery.
Application sessions: tailored sessions across various disciplines will showcase real-world applications of a global mindset by UAntwerp Alumni, providing concrete examples and strategies for educators to implement. By incorporating the viewpoints of students, particularly those who have navigated the complexities of global engagement firsthand, we aim to enrich the conversation further. Discussions will critically examine the advantages and limitations of Western educational curricula, exploring transformative approaches that better prepare students for a globalised world.
Interactive panel: engage with our panel of experts for a dynamic conversation and debate, exchanging best practices.
Networking reception: a chance to connect, share ideas, and forge new paths in global engagement.
