2018 Annual ENCATC Policy Debate

All aboard! Cultural governance from a global perpective

13 November, 18:30, Antwerp University

What are the best practices in cultural governance? How do practices compare and differ across the globe? What will this mean for the future of cultural governance and cultural policy?

This Policy Debate aims to improve quality and practice of cultural governance across the globe. Academics, researchers, cultural managers and entrepreneurs, artists, policy makers, international, European and national civil servants, and students will gather for a one-day intensive discussion to better understand the global picture of good practice in cultural governance. Predominantly, what we know at date is gathered from a narrow set of literature and understandings that is mainly western (from predictable locations, for example: UK, USA and Europe). There is a need to strengthen understanding of cultural governance in other corners of the world. This Policy Debate will be a unique opportunity for the participants to learn about how arts and cultural organisations are managed outside in major cities around the globe and thus to bring new ideas and management practices in their own institutions.
