IMG_2932_2.jpg Nicolas Carette is Professor of Law at the University of Antwerp, where he teaches a.o. Property Law and Introduction to Private Law. He is a member of the Research Group Personal Rights & Property Rights. He is co-managing director of the Interuniversity and Intradisciplinary Centre for Construction Law and Real Estate. 

Professor Carette is co-Editor-in-Chief of the legal journal "Tijdschrift voor Bouwrecht en Onroerend goed" (TBO; Journal on Construction Law and Real Estate). He has written numerous national and international academic publications in the field of private law, esp. contract law, property law, construction and real estate law, and regularly gives lectures on these matters.

Dr Bram Delvaux received his LL.B and initial LL.M. degree from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2001, a diplôme d'études spécialisisées (D.E.S.) in public and administrative law from the Université Libre de Bruxelles in 2002, and an advanced LL.M. degree in Energy and Environmental Law from the KU Leuven in 2003. In September 2011 he obtained his PhD degree at Leuven University. He is co-managing director of the Interuniversity and Intradisciplinary Centre for Construction Law and Real Estate.  

He worked from August 2003 until August 2004 at the private office of the Federal minister for Energy, Fientje Moerman. From October 2004 until July 2009 he was counsellor at the private office of the Vice-Minister-President of the Flemish Region, Fientje Moerman and Dirk Van Mechelen. He is currently a senior research fellow at the Institute of Energy and Environmental Law at the Faculty of Law of the KU Leuven and attorney at the Bar of Brussels with Linklaters LLP. His research interests include all law aspects of energy, energy-efficiency of buildings, construction, climate change and environmental law.

Dr Bram Delvaux is assistant-editor of the International Encyclopaedia for Energy Laws in which prominent energy law experts describe in country-by-country monographs the legal framework concerning energy. He is one of the driving forces behind the Energy Law Research Forum (ELRF) which has gathered experienced researchers in energy law and policy on European and international level. He is also associate editor of the European Energy and Environmental Law Review which is a bimonthly journal which presents comprehensive coverage of the latest developments in energy, climate change law and environmental law throughout Europe. Finally, Dr Bram Delvaux is co-Editor-in-Chief of the legal journal "Tijdschrift voor Bouwrecht en Onroerend goed" (Journal on Construction Law and Real Estate).

Alain-Laurent Verbeke is Full Professor of Law at the University of Leuven, and extra-ordinarius Pofessor of Law at Tilburg Law School and UCP Lisbon Global School of Law. He is Visiting Professor of Law at Harvard Law School.

In Leuven, he is Director of the Institute for Family Property Law and the Center for Notary Law, Co-director of the Institute for Contract Law and LCM (Leuven Center for Collaborative Management) at the Faculty of Psychology.

He is Co-President and Co-Founder of the Interuniversity and Intradisciplinary Centre for Construction Law and Real Estate.

He has written numerous academic publications in the fields of contracts, property, estate planning, negotiation and mediation.
As an attorney at the Bars of Brussels and Kortrijk, Alain-Laurent Verbeke is Founding partner with Greenille, a private client firm with attorneys and notaries (Brussels, Antwerp, Kortrijk, Amsterdam & Rotterdam) and mediator and arbitrator in national (e.g. Cepina) and international (e.g. ICC) cases.

Since July 2009, Kurt is the Secretary-General of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) (LERU), an association of twenty-one leading research-intensive universities (Oxford, Cambridge, Leiden, Leuven, Heidelberg, etc).

Before joining LERU, he was the chief legal advisor (2004-2007) and the chief of staff (2007-2009) of the Flemish Minister for Public Works, Energy, Environment and Nature.

He is also a professor of law (however on parttime leave since 2007) at the University of Leuven, the university where he studied law (1984-1989), obtained his PhD in Law (1989-1995) and spent (until now) his whole academic career.

Furthermore, he is an honorary professor of law at the University of Dundee, was awarded the Hou-De Honorary Chair at the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, and has been a visiting professor of law at the Universities of London, Sydney and Singapore.

Kurt published extensively in the field of EU Environmental, Energy and Climate Change Law, and is the editor of several leading bookseries and journals in that field.

Finally, he chairs the Board of Directors of the Flemish Energy Regulator (VREG), is chair of the Flemish Environmental Damages Commission, co-chair of the Malta Legal Forum on Adaptation to Climate Change, and is on the board of a number of profit (MRBB, AIF) and non-profit (I-Cleantech) organisations in Belgium.
