Dr Bruno Hoste (University of Antwerp, Belgium) and Dr Liliane Campos (University of Sorbonne-Nouvelle, France) will lead a discussion on the theory and practice of interdisciplinarity in research.

The webinar “Interdisciplinary Research (IDR):
To IDR or not to IDR?”
by Dr Bruno Hoste, introduces the basic principles of IDR and why it should or should not (?) be considered an option for researchers, in general, or for BioYUFE researchers, in particular, to engage in. It focusses on what the benefits and hurdles are of such engagement, opens up discussion for incentives and introduces a new concept of future support which could be provided to BioYUFE/YUFE researchers and support staff.

In "BioCriticism as interdisciplinary practice", Dr Liliane Campos will present an example of interdisciplinary work. The BioCriticism project brings together academics and artists to examine cultural representations of biology. This talk will focus on the exchanges that the project has occasioned between science communicators, literary scholars, communication scholars, historians and philosophers. Liliane will present some of the strengths and obstacles created by conversations across disciplines.

These webinars provide an open forum for discussion and comments and questions from all participants are most welcome.

🗓️ Another BioYUFE webinar on the topic of ‘Decolonising Research’ is scheduled for later this year.
